Discover Discovering Farmland

ATTENTION ALL AGRICULTURAL EDUCATORS!

Are you in need of a fresh perspective on how to present agriculture in your classroom? Are you looking for interactive lesson plans to get students thinking about the importance of agriculture? Well look no further! The U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance has partnered with Discovery Education to put together Discovering Farmland- a thought provoking lesson plan and video series that challenges its viewers to think critically about current agricultural issues. This new guide is based off of James Moll’s film FARMLAND. According to the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance, the foundation was started to inform consumers about how their food is grown and raised by developing a multi-modal agricultural curriculum for high school students. The main themes discussed are: farming as an industry, how to educate consumers, breaking down stereotypes, and the challenges in farming and ranching.

Discovering Farmland would not have been possible without the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance and Discovery Education’s dedication to education and their mission to rebuild trust with consumers in agriculture. According to the Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) website, the USFRA consists of more than 80 farmer – and rancher-led organizations and agricultural partners representing virtually all aspects of agriculture, working to engage in dialogue with consumers who have questions about how today’s food is grown and raised.  One of their goals is to educate students going to college on how there is a need for people to engage in agricultural and food based careers. With the help of Discover Education, they were able to do just that. Discovery Education is known for their award-winning digital content, interactive lessons, real time assessment, and virtual experiences which is what helps make Discovering Farmland so unique.
